Completed Projects
Since 1972, Friends of Medina County Parks (FOTP) has been a stalwart supporter, generously funding numerous projects that have made a tangible impact. Below are just a few examples of the transformative initiatives and essential items that have directly enriched Medina County Park District, county residents, wildlife, and visitors.
Granger Wetlands Wildlife Sanctuary Bridge
FOTP invested more than $200,000 in Granger Wetlands Wildlife Sanctuary to help fund the covered bridge, its concrete abutments, and the parking lot.
Accessible Fishing Platforms
FOTP has enhanced the fishing experience for everyone by constructing accessible fishing platforms at key locations, including Brunswick Lake Park, Holmesbrook Park, and River Styx Park. These platforms ensure that individuals of all abilities can fully enjoy the pleasure of fishing. These improvements were funded through the Michael Bennett Memorial Fund, which is one of two funds established from the George Ayres estate donation of $600,000 to Friends of Medina County Parks. Inclusive Playground at Carolyn Ludwig Mugrage Park
The inclusive playground welcomes children of all abilities, providing a space where every child can access and delight in the joy of play without limitations. There are double-sized ramps for wheelchair users and a poured-in-place rubber safety surface that protects children from falls and also provides easy wheelchair access throughout the playground. FOTP and many individuals and organizations raised over $250,000 to fund this playground.
Public Programs
FOTP proudly supports a diverse array of programs annually, catering to a wide range of interests and age groups. Music at The Lodge series, Wadsworth Community Band Concert at Buffalo Creek Retreat, Youth Fishing Camps, and Mysterious Owls are just a few examples of programs that individuals of all ages can enjoy. Fees for guest speakers, program presenters, and craft/art supplies are also paid for with FOTP funds.
Chippewa Inlet Trail North Observation Deck
Chippewa Inlet Trail North is a great location to watch waterfowl. An observation deck was funded by FOTP and built by volunteers.
Bird Feeding Area at Susan Hambley Nature Center
While visiting the Susan Hambley Nature Center, a view out the back windows includes a chance to observe local birds in a bird feeding station. FOTP provided funding to remodel this area.
Golf Cart
FOTP has generously supplied a golf cart for park staff to use during large events, such as Earth Day, to assist individuals with mobility challenges, ensuring everyone can fully participate in and enjoy the festivities.

FOTP purchased a 15-passenger van dedicated to facilitating tours and transportation needs for the park district’s special events.
